The Project will qualify as a renewable energy generator and will help achieve the renewable generation requirements established by the

Texas Legislature in July 2005:

 

5000 MW of new renewable generation

500 MW of non-wind renewable generation

 

LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS

 

Signed into law on August 1, 2005, Texas Senate Bill 20 requires that 5,880 MW of the state’s energy come from renewable sources by 2015, sets a goal of 10,000 MW by 2025 and requires that 500 MW be produced by new renewable sources other than wind, such as biomass and solar power.

 

EXECUTIVE ORDER RP49

 

Signed on October 27, 2005, Executive Order RP49 states, “… the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality ("Commission") shall apply the full resources of the agency to prioritize and expedite the processing of environmental permit applications thatuse Texas’ natural resources to generate electrical power.” and “The Commission shall coordinate with national, state, and local agencies as needed at its discretion in order to avoid any delays in the permit issuance.”
